Completion of Dongxi Bridge in 67 years of the Republic of China; Encouragement for Yang, En-Tien to be a mouth and foot painting artist
In 67 years of the Republic of China, we are blessed that Mr. Chiang, Ching-Guo, the Former President visited Christian Mountain Children's Home and asked Provincial and County Governments to build a cement bridge, which completely resolved the problem of transportation; on May 28th, 8 days after the inauguration as sixth president, Former President Mr. Chiang, Ching-Guo visited Christian Mountain Children's Home again. En-Tien Yang, who were about the age of primary school, lamented to “Grandpa Chiang” that she has no arms and cannot write. Grandpa Chiang told her, “you can write with feet instead”, which inspired her with gritty determination to learn all kinds of things which people normally do with hands, with her feet. En-Tien Yang even won the Certificate of Excellence at Liugui School District Calligraphy Contest, and became a famous mouth and foot painting artist.
Former President, Mr. Chiang, Ching-Guo encountered the baby sister, En-Tien Yang, while he rebuilt the cement square in 65 years of the Republic of China
In March, 63 years of the Republic of China, En-Tien Yang was born without arms, abandoned on a stall at Gangshan Town Market by her biological parents since birth. After media reports, Priest Yang couple took her back to orphanage, and named her “En-Tien” (grace). On November 25th, 65 years of the Republic of China, President Chiang came again and concerned that the basketball court is dusty, unsightly, and unhygienic; he commanded Labour Department to rebuild it as the cement square.
On December 25th in the same year, President Chiang visited CMCH the third time. When he saw the square was beautiful and functional, he felt utmost delighted. Suddenly, he encountered the baby sister, En-Tien Yang who lost both arms and his compassion arose spontaneously. He enquired about her living situation in detail, holding her for a while and not bearing to let go. President Chiang then sent En-Tien to Cheng Hsin General Hospital Rehabilitation Center and decreed to install prostheses for her. President Chiang cared for people in every possible way and was loved by people. Such benevolence is rare in the world.
Overcoming the difficulty of building a straw shed in 53 years of the Republic of China
In the summer of 44 years of the Republic of China, it was at the first graduation ceremony of the Baptist seminary. Priest Yang voluntarily applied to preach in the remote mountains as his wife Fong-Ying Lin was a mountain compatriot, who followed him to pastor Liugui Christian Baptist Church. Priest Yang then taught part-time classes at Liugui High School and had great income at this time. Priest Yang couple went to the mountain villages to preach frequently. While they found mountain compatriots living in hardships or bereaved orphans, they actively sought permission from the relatives and friends to bring them home and raise them. Years go by as the days go by, Priest Yang couple adopted orphans up to twenty-four.
In 53 years of the Republic of China, since it was unable to accommodate more orphans at home, Priest Yang couple found a wasteland at Da-Kuling, Xinglong Village, Liugui Township, where is the current address of Christian Mountain Children's Home. Church brothers and sisters built a shabby straw shed in person, and operated it in a way that overcomes difficulty, adopting orphans to more than one hundred until then.
Beginning to adopt orphans in 41 years of the Republic of China
At the end of 41 years of the Republic of China, Priest Yang couple began to adopt the first dumb orphan, who is named Lin, Lu-Te, and sent him to study at Provincial Taipei School for the Blind and Dumb on recommendation.
Motivation and purpose of founding the orphanage in 41 years of the Republic of China
When Priest Yang participated in Yangmingshan Lingtou Baptist Seminary Summer Camp, he often visited Hua Hsing Children's Home founded by Mrs. Chiang. Priest Yang felt grateful for such benevolent rule, as she cared for orphans of military officers and soldiers to ensure that the next generation of children can obtain life and education. Priest Yang couple felt compassionate for the difficult living conditions and the difference in customs of the mountain compatriots at that time. There were no charities that take care of poor and sick orphans in Liugui Township yet. Priest Yang couple even made a wish so that one day they are capable of adopting orphaned children from mountain compatriots, not only providing opportunities for life education, medicine, and employment guidance, but also seeking parenting benefits for mountain compatriots and orphaned children.
